1.5 K continuous CCR cryostats

PTSHI-950T-LT

1.5 K cryostat features

  • Top-loading static helium thermal exchange gas configuration
  • Pulse tube closed-cycle cryocooler design allows nearly unlimited unattended operation
  • Independent recirculating helium gas loop cools the sample chamber to 1.5 K without the use of liquid helium
  • Choice of cryocooler to match performance and budget requirements
  • Optimized for two-loop temperature control. Helium thermal exchange gas is heated and controlled by one heater and calibrated silicon diode, while a second heater and sensor on the sample mount enable rapid temperature sweeps and precise sample temperature control.
  • Sample is accessed by removing the top-loading sample positioner
  • Four orthogonal sets of windows can be used in either transmission or reflection geometry (PTSHI-950-LT)
  • Non-optical tails (PTSHI-950T-LT)
  • O-ring sealed ports accept DC and RF electrical feedthroughs
  • Optional DC and RF wires and cables for electrical measurements

A turnkey alternative to liquid helium

This low vibration pulse tube cryocooler achieves liquid helium performance utilizing cryogen-free technology and a closed-loop system.

Standard configuration

PTSHI-950-LT 1.5 K Continuous CCR Cryostat Mechanical Drawing

The Lake Shore PTSHI-950-LT 1.5 K continuous closed-cycle refrigerator cryostat operates continuously from 1.5 K to 300 K (450 K optional) and is a cryogen-free, turnkey alternative to liquid helium. Featuring pushbutton operation including sample temperature adjustment, this top-loading cryostat can locate samples in either static exchange gas or vacuum.

The PTSHI-950-LT offers rapid sample exchange. The sample is inserted, via a long rod, into a nearly isothermal region of the gas column for cooling. Sample exchange by simply removing the sample rod, switching samples on the rod, and reinserting the rod into the cryostat. The entire sequence takes ~80 min and is performed while the refrigerator is operating.

Capable of achieving 1.5 K in ~9 h, the PTSHI-950-LT 1.5 K continuous CCR cryostat has a 50.8 mm I.D. sample chamber (optional to 100 mm) and can be designed to customer specifications. The system allows you to cool samples, devices, and/or equipment without the inconvenience and expense of liquid helium. It can be applied to a broad range of applications in both academic research and industrial R&D, including materials research, magnetic measurements, neutron scattering (see the neutron scattering configuration), electrical transport measurements, optical spectroscopy, and spintronics.

Neutron scattering configuration

The PTSHI-950-LT can be configured for neutron scattering. Modular tails can easily be exchanged for different experimental requirements.
