In this new application note, we present low-temperature Model 8600 VSM measurement results for Bi2223 HTS tape and Y123 solid samples, demonstrating the utility of vibrating sample magnetometry for non-contact characterization of high-temperature superconductor (HTS) materials.
This study involved magnetization measurements as a function of temperature and magnetic field to determine the transition temperature Tc and critical current density Jc of the samples — key properties useful for assessing superconducting performance, flux pinning behavior, and practical operating limits of the widely studied Bi2223 and Y123 cuprate superconductors.
As demonstrated, the non-contact VSM approach provides a way to determine critical field and temperature without having to make electrical contacts with the sample. Such an approach allows rapid, repeatable assessment of superconductor properties across a wide range of temperatures and fields, largely independent of sample geometry and without the complexities associated with sample mounting.
